San Diego, California- The 2026 PGA Tour season is already underway. Last week in the first tournament of the year, The American Express; world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler captured his 20th career win joining select company with Jack Nickalaus and Tiger Woods as the only golfers ever to have at least 20 wins and four major titles before turning 30.
This week more headlines were made with some incredible numbers from Justin Rose, and I am not talking about his age. The Englishman, an elder statesman, won at Torrey Pines in a wire to wire 7 shot victory.
Rose finished Sunday at 23 under to overtake George Burns and Tiger for the tournament scoring record of 22 under. In the process he also became the oldest winner in the history of Torrey Pines at age 45. This was his second Farmers Insurance Open, also taking it home in 2019.
This pushes Rosey’s career win mark to 13 further increasing his record of holding the most wins of any English player ever.
The wily veteran started Sunday afternoon with a commanding six-stroke lead over Joel Dahmen who joked that his only chance at coming back was if Rose overslept his tee time. Unfortunately for Dahmen and the rest of the field, Rosey more than just showed up. After settling in with a few pars early Rose started to hop on the birdie train.
He narrowly missed an eagle on the par-5 6th to set up a short birdie. Then on the next one he looked like vintage Justin Rose hitting his approach shot perfectly into the back pin location to get to 2 under in the blink of an eye. Later, on the 8th he sunk another birdie putt from outside of 30 feet, which was greeted by some big roars. At this point the field knew it was all but over.
Throughout the weekend he never risked too much yet knew where to take his shots. Rose continued to prove that age is just a number.
The season will continue this week starting Thursday at the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale, Arizona.
