"Mirkovic made an absolute statement in his first game with the Illini."
STATE FARM CENTER, NOV 3 – The Fightin’ Illini took on Jackson State on Monday November 3rd in their season opener. The Illini came out in full force securing a victory 113-55 over JSU.
Freshman, David Mirkovic, made an absolute statement in his first game with the Illini. In twenty-minutes, the freshman hurled in 19 points and 14 rebounds marking an incredible first game. Mirkovic, who is a 6’9 forward, is one of four international players on the Illinois roster this year. Mirkovic comes from Montenegro, and will look to help Illinois stay a powerhouse not only in the Big Ten, but NCAA wide.
Along with Mirkovic, Ben Humrichous and Tomislav Ivisic each scored 21 points in the win. Complemented by Keaton Wagler’s 18 points and Jake Davis’s 13 points. Scoring came easy for the Illini in their win over JSU. But I would be remiss to say that JSU is an easy team by any means. They are playing nine of their first ten games on the road. Oh and not to mention- they are facing seven teams who played in the NCAA tourney last year, and five preseason AP top 25 teams during this stretch.
In the end, the Illini completely dominated this game in all aspects. They made 17 three pointers, ten of which came in the first half, and outrebounded Jackson State 61-19, totally controlling the paint.
