"“God bless those guys. They’re just playing football the way they play it.”"
Two impressive teams meet in one of college football’s biggest moments: the College Football Playoff. With Miami and Texas A&M making their first CFP appearances, tensions are high.
Miami has faced plenty of backlash throughout the season, especially in games that critics claimed were not “best of the best.” Despite all the background noise, the Hurricanes rose above the judgment and earned their spot in the CFP. The root of controversy was mainly the debate over Notre Dame being ranked above Miami, despite Miami having defeated them. That match-up was crucial and became a defining moment in Miami’s season.
This match-up is not new. Miami and Texas A&M have met five times, with Miami leading the series 3-2. Miami’s most recent win was 48-33 in 2023.
Let’s take a look at quarterback talent. We have Marcel Reed with 2,932 total yards, while Carson Beck is bringing in 3,072 yards. The talent from both teams' leaders makes this game truly unpredictable. Between the drive and emotion, this game has the perfect ingredients to turn into a high-tension showdown.
Now let’s look at both teams and their performance. We see Texas A&M struggled in their loss to Texas, raising some questions about how well they can maintain consistency under pressure. We have also noticed that when it comes to kicking, Miami could have an advantage after the Aggies have been inconsistent with their kicking game.
On the other hand, Miami did start the season strong. They showcased their ability to have a great team built with humility and teamwork while also rising above all the adversity they have faced in past years. While Miami has also struggled with predictable runs, damaging turnovers, and some defensive issues, it is imperative that Miami refines its techniques in order to have a successful game against the Aggies.
To add fuel to the fire, we’ve seen Instagram posts and interviews specifically from Trey Zhun, the strong offensive lineman, who said when asked about the match-up, “he wasn’t worried about it, an interesting choice of words. Then we have Miami’s Rueben Bain, a powerful defensive lineman, responding with “God bless those guys. They’re just playing football the way they play it. A response that, if you ask me… is politely dismissive.
Is Texas A&M being overly confident? Is Miami letting the game speak for itself?
We’ll find out when that whistle blows this Saturday at 12 p.m. ET.
May the best team win. God bless them both.
